Mental Health Conditions Treated in Dubai
Mental health challenges rarely occur in isolation. Many people experience overlapping difficulties such as trauma, anxiety, ADHD, dissociation, grief, or relationship struggles. Dr. Millia Begum provides comprehensive assessment and evidence-based treatment tailored to each individual’s needs.
What Are You Experiencing?
You do not need a diagnosis to be helped. Several emotional health issues are hard to be understood in any one diagnostic category. It is best to understand a person in a holistic way. However, sometimes diagnosis does help the person to narrow down the issues and to learn more about them. Start with what you are experiencing and explore the conditions that may be relevant.
Note that these are examples of possible symptoms and possible narratives. These do not represent the entire cluster of symptoms and do not in itself mean that you may have this diagnosis. A mental health professional, a psychiatrist, or a psychotherapist would be able to guide you on the appropriate way to be assessed.
- “I feel constantly on edge, easily startled, or as though something bad is about to happen.”
- “I keep replaying some of the past experiences in my mind and cannot seem to stop overthinking”
Trauma & PTSD
Trauma-related difficulties can develop after frightening, overwhelming or repeated experiences. The mind and body may continue to respond as though danger is still present.
Treatment may include trauma-focused psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment depending on the individual assessment.
- “I feel numb, spaced out, disconnected from myself, or as though the world does not feel real.”
- “I feel I am living someone else’s life and this is not my life”
- “I frequently feel numb as if I have no connection with my own body”
Dissociation & Disconnection
Dissociation involves experiences of disconnection from emotions, memories, the body, yourself or your surroundings.
Treatment depends on the type and severity of dissociation and may require careful pacing and stabilisation before trauma processing.
- “I struggle to start things, lose track of time, become distracted and feel overwhelmed by everyday organisation.”
- “I was called lazy, slow learner, stupid, and a day-dreamer”
ADHD & Neurodivergence
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, executive functioning, activity levels and impulse regulation.
Support may include psychoeducation, practical strategies, psychological support and medication where clinically appropriate.
- “My mind never switches off. I keep imagining what might go wrong and find it difficult to relax.”
- “One of my parent was also anxious and always felt I needed to be good, so she does not get upset with me”
Anxiety
Anxiety can involve persistent worry, fear, physical tension and anticipation of danger even when there is no immediate threat.
Treatment may include psychological therapy, exploration of underlying contributors and medication where appropriate.
- “My heart suddenly races, I cannot breathe properly and I feel as though something terrible is happening.”
- My worry of getting a panic attack is constant and I have to constantly think of ways to keep safe”
Panic Attacks
Panic attacks are sudden episodes of intense fear or discomfort. They may happen unexpectedly or become linked to particular sensations or situations.
Treatment focuses on understanding what drives the panic and reducing fear of the physical and emotional responses.
- “I know time has passed, but the loss still feels overwhelming or impossible to integrate into my life.”
- I cannot get past the guilt of not having spoken to him before his death”
Grief & Traumatic Loss
Grief is a natural response to loss. Sometimes grief becomes prolonged, or traumatic circumstances surrounding a death make adaptation more difficult.
Support may include grief-focused therapy or trauma therapy when traumatic aspects of the loss remain prominent.
- “I spend a lot of time worrying about how I look, smell, or how other people perceive me.”
- “I was bullied for my appearance as a child repeatedly by my peers”
Body Image & Self-Perception
Some mental health conditions involve persistent concerns about appearance or how other people perceive you. These concerns may significantly affect daily life.
Specialist assessment can help clarify whether these experiences form part of a condition such as BDD or Olfactory Reference Syndrome.
